Approximately $16.4 million was available for 2007 Norman Hackerman Advanced Research Program (NHARP) awards. Proposals recommended for funding by peer review panels and subsequently by the Advisory Committee on Research Programs were approved by the Coordinating Board on April 24, 2008. Norman Hackerman Advanced Research Program On October 25, 2007, the Coordinating Board voted unanimously to permanently rename the Advanced Research Program to the Norman Hackerman Advanced Research Program. Dr. Hackerman’s unwavering commitment to research, and to the important role higher education fulfills in providing a steady stream of research-educated scientists and engineers, has helped ensure continuing economic growth and improved quality of life for the citizens of Texas. The Advanced Research Program (ARP) and the Advanced Technology Program (ATP) were created by the Texas Legislature in 1987 as competitive, peer-reviewed grants programs to fund scientific and engineering research projects of faculty members at Texas higher education institutions.
